The Waldershelf Singers
“For the love of Singing”
Singing has brought us together. We are from all ages and walks of life. Some are experienced singers and musicians, and some new learners. There are deep voices and high voices, young voices and mature voices, quiet voices and confident voices.
Together we make music, and have fun, as a community who love to sing.
The Waldershelf Singers is an independent mixed voice choir with around 54 members. We sing all kinds of music from madrigals to musicals, from traditional folksong to contemporary arrangements, from beautiful religious pieces to modern jazz and everything in-between! Typically the choir appears in around eight concerts or events each year. We love to join with other choirs and community groups to create special and memorable occasions and raise money for local charities.
We have a team of 3 very capable and professional musicians; Rachel Atkinson and Claire McCauley and Simon Johnston who coaches the men. Led by Rachel, they are all very capable at conducting, accompanying, arranging and teaching. It’s usual to have different members of the team leading different parts of rehearsals. We also enjoy rehearsing in sections and sometimes singing in smaller groups too.
We meet for rehearsals at The Venue in Stocksbridge on Tuesday evenings, 7:30 – 9:30 pm. We hold “Come and Sing” evenings occasionally for anyone who would like to try out singing. You’re to pop in and enjoy an evening of fun warm ups, songs and making new friends (and cake… always cake!). Watch this space for our next “Come and Sing”.
