Waldershelf Singers Community Choir
“For the love of Singing”
Singing has brought us together. We are from all ages and walks of life. Some are experienced singers and musicians, and some new learners. There are deep voices and high voices, young voices and mature voices, quiet voices and confident voices.
Together we make music, and have fun, as a community who love to sing.
Waldershelf Singers is an independent mixed voice community choir with around 50 members. We sing all kinds of music from madrigals to musicals, from traditional folksong to contemporary arrangements, from beautiful religious pieces to modern jazz and everything in-between! We love to join with other choirs and community groups to create special and memorable occasions and raise money for local charities.
We meet for rehearsals at The Venue in Stocksbridge on Tuesday evenings, 7:30 – 9:30 pm.
We are always looking for new people to come and join us. You’re welcome to pop in and enjoy an evening of fun warm ups, songs and making new friends. We hold “Come and Sing” evenings occasionally for anyone who would like to try out singing. See the ‘Contact Us’ page for details.
Our Music Director, Rachel Atkinson, has been with the choir for a number of years, first as accompanist, and in recent years in charge of the music team. Rachel has wide experience as a professional musician and teacher. She encourages and challenges everyone to reach their potential and give their best at the public events we are involved in.
Government guidelines for Covid are very much a part of choir activities and as restrictions ease, we are constantly checking and updating practices according to the latest ones to keep everyone safe and well. Now, in early 2022, we are more or less back to normal. We are already planning and rehearsing repertoires and events for 2022/23.
